Return from A-kon
June 2nd, 2008“Are these nipple prints on my glasses!?” Those were my first words Saturday morning and I think that about sums up my trip to A-kon this year. Needless to say its was a blast and a half with lots of booze powered mayhem. Thursday was pretty standard fare for us. We got checked in to the hotel after a 14 hour overnight drive and got some food and went to bed. It was 3 o’ clock before we woke up in order to get our last minute printing done, and get the table for the artist alley ready. The great news is that the Con and the Con staff were fantastic! Our table was right in the heart of everyone that I have met standing on the other side of the table at cons and count as friends. Two Lumps and The Devil’s Panties were right behind us; along with Girlly. Next door we had the lovely ladies from Artpht33k and the fun and delightful Jennifer of Mystic Revolution on our other side. On top of everyone treating us so swell, the great folks at Two Lumps have been willing to do a link trade with us. The table was pretty busy, and over all I hardly got time to see much of the Con when it was completely open which is a shame as they where showing all the newest anime. I did manage to get into the dealers room and grab this (Dr. Who Sonic Screwdriver) , however. My Sci-Fi Friday nights will be much more fun now! Especially with the nifty psychic paper.I did get to see a lot of A-kon after hours, however, with a lovely security staff escort who shall remain unnamed. It’s always cool to walk around the Con at night wearing an unlicensed booze particle acceleration back pack with friends. By the end of Friday night, I could barely walk and had added a new word to my lexicon, Henockikotichi, which is a lovely word which I think I shall be having need of often. Speaking of the steam punk projects, they both worked better than expected, but still have a few minor bugs in them. Strangely the cane had a lot more issues that the backpack. Oh, and I finally came up with a good name for the dammed thing. I am calling it a BarBak TM.Saturday was an all day work fest, but with a lot of really excited new potential readers chiming in about how they liked the concept for the comic. The really fun part was later that night when Steven Bennett and Kat Horton, both great artists,( you can read Steve’s comic here ) invited us out for Sushi. at a what I can only assume is a very authentic and that I can attest to be a very tasty sushi restaurant in the Dallas metro area. I did not find a single item on the table I did not like, and however much I liked the teardrop roll I am so glad they did not have the time to get the second batch out to the table. I am not sure John’s and my stomach could have handled it. I spent the rest of the Con dealing with a little drama, and walking around watching the “sites”. Tell you more about that later.
Well, I’m typing this on my rummage sale laptop in the car somewhere near the OK/MO border, and I better get off here before the battery dies. I need to try and get some sleep so I can function at my day job tomorrow.
