A Word from the Artist (Addendum)

June 30th, 2008

Um. So, it’s Sunday night, and still no update. First, let me render my deepest and most heartfelt apologies.

I’m currently wrestling with an unexpected and maddening problem in Manga Studio, regarding exporting the files. They look great on my screen - the tones look wonderful, and show the hours of work that went into them. I’m really happy with the next couple pages.

Unfortunately when I export them the tones go straight to hell, and I can’t for the life of me figure out why. If any readers are very familiar with the art of applying tone in Manga Studio, drop me a line - I could use the help.

In the meantime, if I can’t get this licked by tomorrow night I’m posting these updates (including this week’s - that’s three pages) in lineart only, no tones, while I go back and re-tone the pages from scratch in Photoshop. I really don’t want to switch my workflow like this - MS is an amazing program and I can’t recommend it enough for so many reasons, but if the tones don’t look the same in the export as they do on my MS screen I don’t see how I can rely on it, especially when I know Photoshop can produce a wonderful grey-toned image (or for that matter sepiatones…now there’s a thought….)

Until then…it’s 3 am and I need to sleep or I’ll be useless at work tomorrow, so I’m calling it quits for today. Thanks for your patience with my little adventure.
