Not Dead, Just Hosed

January 24th, 2009

Happy new year (late) everybody! Wes here. I know what I said about updates resuming a couple of weeks ago…and I utterly failed to make that deadline. Why? Actually, I have a great reason.

Um, no. It’s just misfortune, pure and simple. After the holidays I got back to 1) No heat for a couple days, then as soon as that was fixed 2) a cold or something, and then 3) my computer’s hard drive started throwing errors to the tune of “I’m gonna die any second now!!!” Seeing as I lacked any kind of data backup…I basically panicked. The idea of literally years of work possibly being lost was, well, terrifying. And I know I should’ve been backing things up sooner…honestly, I have a few backups for specific projects. But a lot of my recent work (including the entire comic and all the comic scripts) hasn’t been adequately protected.

After a tense couple of “what do I back up next, if this is the last file transfer I get before the HD dies?” games, I got all my files backed up and started troubleshooting. Two days and some phone calls later and I’d pinpointed the problem, and ordered replacement parts. Last week I got the parts in, and found I hadda drive 5 hours to Saint Louis for some necessary disks to do the software reinstall.

I’ve had a working PC for all of two and a half days, now. And I’m the better part of 3 weeks behind on paying jobs, personal projects, resume distribution, and…this comic. I’ve got inked pages, but they still need to be scanned, cleaned up, toned, lettered, and posted. I’ll get to that soon (soon, soon, my pretties…) but please gimme a couple of days to get to it. Paying work and resumes are a higher priority for basic survival reasons, but I should have some hours free to work on the comic shortly.

Stay warm, everybody!

-wes (is very, very embarassed about these stupid delays)
