Moving and production notes

June 10th, 2009

We’re still unpacking…and probably will be for weeks, at this rate. So I’ve decided to just get back to the comic…but seriously, you should see my work area. It looks like a dorm room exploded in here.

“A couple of days” seem to have turned into ten-ish. I’ll be coloring the next page tomorrow and posting it as soon as it’s done.

Once again, the visual style will change a little…I’ve acquired a Cintiq 12wx used and it’s given me a new lease on digital inking and painting. The difference between a normal tablet and a Cintiq is…well, I’m floored. I can see why they’re so popular even with the steep price tag. Eventually I’ll have to upgrade to a larger model, I suppose…but for now the 12wx is plenty sufficient to hone my inking reflexes on.

I’m trying digital inking again. The gorgon pin-up turned out beautifully, and it was all-digital - and no Cintiq either, at the time. But getting back into the swing of analog inking (you know…pen and paper) has really beefed up my ability to judge the quality of my own digital inks. That, coupled with the Cintiq, is yeilding much improved results. I still have to play with the tool settings I’m relying on, but even so, it’s still turning out nicely. The variation in line weight with digital inking is potentially quite broad, which definitely changes the way things look.
